The birth of Jacques Herbin

In 1670, when Louis XIV was 32 years old, Jacques Herbin began specialising in sealing wax and fine stationery.

1798

Jacques Herbin begins manufacturing inks

At the end of the Directoire period, the company took a gamble on the future and changed its commercial destiny: while continuing to trade in wax, paper and colours (pigments), it launched its own production of writing ink.

1850

Birth of Brause

Founded in Iserlohn in 1850, Brause originally specialised in the manufacture of needles. It soon became a modern business thanks to the acquisition of a steam engine. In 1895, production was expanded to include bicycle wheel spokes and writing nibs.

2021

The start of the Clairefontaine Rhodia adventure

The Jacques Herbin company was handed down from father to son throughout the 20th century. Under the Clairefontaine Rhodia umbrella since January 2021, Jacques Herbin continues to write a new page in its history. This is also the case for Brause, which is coming under Clairefontaine management.
